Puducherry CM Rangasamy finalises cabinet, ministers likely to be inducted on June 27
The Puducherry cabinet will now be a six-member ministry with four members from the AINRC, including the Chief Minister, and two from the BJP.
After more than 40 days of tension, cabinet formation in Puducherry finally took shape on Wednesday when Prime Minister N Rangasamy presented Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan with a list of members to join his ministry, including two BJP MLAs. The list has been submitted to the Union’s Ministry of Interior for approval and the cabinet expansion is expected to take place on June 27th, “Tamilisai told reporters. Earlier in the day, Rangasamy Soundararajan forwarded the names of the MLAs to be added to his cabinet and it would now be a six-member ministry with four from the AINRC, including the Chief Minister and two from the BJP.
The list included the names of three AINRC lawmakers, with the exception of the Prime Minister, and two of the BJP. The names of the new ministers proposed by the CM could not be determined immediately. Although the AINRC-led NDA held the elections to the 6th.
Shortly after leading his alliance to a victory, AINRC founder Rangasamy was sworn in as chief minister on May 6, while “Embalam” R Selvam was unanimously elected by BJP as spokesman for the Puducherry Assembly on June 16.
The AINRC and BJP, which make up the NDA, have a combined strength of 16 MLAs and have the backing of three nominee lawmakers who are members of the BJP. The house has a total strength of 33, including the three nominated members. Former Chief Minister A Namassivayam would be among the representatives of the BJP in the cabinet, a party source said.
