Unscrupulous handyman arrested after ripping off another Villager
David Carl Hall
An unscrupulous handyman with a long history of riping off older villagers has ended up behind bars.
David Carl Hall, 49, of Leesburg was arrested on Monday morning in Leesburg on a Lake County arrest warrant for counterfeiting, unlicensed contracts and theft of someone over 65 after a traffic obstruction.
Hall had been driving a black Dodge with his teenage son who had been traveling as a passenger when he was stopped by the Lake County Sheriff’s MPs. Methamphetamine and a pipe were found in the truck. Hall also drove with a driver’s license.
A check revealed that Hall was wanted on an arrest warrant due to an incident in May in which a The Silver Lake Village woman, who lives on Mark Drive, said she agreed to pay $ 2,400 to Hall’s Professional Services to seal her roof and paint the exterior of her home. This comes from an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He used a gallon of paint on the house and never returned.
Hall, Who has a long history of arreststook home five of the woman’s awnings and claimed he would paint them there. She phoned Hall several times, but couldn’t reach him. Eventually he texted the woman and admitted that the awnings were “mysteriously missing”. He promised to replace her but never contacted her again.
The woman gave police a business card claiming Hall was “licensed and insured”. However, a review with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation found no license for Hall, the report said.
She’d given Hall $ 1,500 upfront to start the job. She estimated the awnings would cost her $ 2,000 to replace.
He was taken into custody and put on a $ 14,000 bond.
Includes Hall’s criminal record an arrest in 2018 after an elderly woman, also in Silver Lake village, was ripped off.
