Vidor Police say ‘handyman’ beat, robbed 74-year-old Vidor woman

Police say the suspect returned to the woman’s home after paying, broke in and asked for more money.

VIDOR, Texas – A “handyman” is behind bars after he was accused of beating and robbing his elderly client in Vidor on Monday.

Vidor police officers were sent to a house on the 800 block of Ferndale after a person was reported injured shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, according to a press release from the Vidor Police Department.

When they arrived, they found that a 74-year-old woman had been beaten and robbed in her own home.

The woman told officials that a “handyman” she previously hired and paid to do his job broke into her home.

The “handyman” identified as Jason Lee Brown, 40, from Vidor had returned and asked for more money, she told officials.

When she did not give Brown any money, he beat her and caused “serious injuries”. Then he stole her 2011 Lincoln Navigator and, according to the publication, left.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Christ St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Less than three hours later, at around 1:10 p.m., an officer discovered the woman’s stolen navigator near Pine Street and Texas Ave. in Vidor.

Several officers pulled over the navigator and Brown was taken into custody without incident.

Brown was then transferred to the Orange County Correctional Facility as per the release.

At around 10:35 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021, the Vidor Police Department received a call from an injured person on the 800 block of Ferndale, Vidor, Texas.

Upon arrival, officials learned that the homeowner had been attacked by a handyman they had previously hired.

The homeowner said he broke into her home and attacked her.

Repairman Jason Lee Brown had been paid to do the chores he had done. He returned to the residence and asked for more money from the 74-year-old resident.

When she didn’t give him what he asked, he started beating her, resulting in serious injuries. The suspect, Mr. Brown, then stole her 2011 Lincoln Navigator and fled the scene before the officers arrived.

The victim was taken to Christ St. Elizabeth Hospital by the Allegiance Ambulance Service with non-life threatening injuries.

At around 1:10 p.m., an officer discovered the stolen Mercury Navigator in the Pine St. and Texas Ave area of ​​Vidor, Texas. The officer followed the vehicle until other officers could help.

The officers were able to take Mr. Brown into custody without further incident. Mr. Brown was taken to the Orange County Correctional Facility.
