What to Do If a New Appliance Breaks – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
The delivery staff were barely at the door when a North Texas consumer said her new washing machine broke. She said she tried for weeks to get the manufacturer to replace it.
Read on to learn how she resolved your concerns and what steps you can take if a new device fails.
“Our first charge no longer worked”
Garland’s Elora Delgado said that once her new washing machine was delivered and plugged in, she tossed some laundry in.
“Our first charge stopped working, it didn’t even work the first charge,” Delgado said.
Delgado said she heard the mixer fight in the machine.
“It made that awful grinding noise so it wouldn’t spin,” Delgado told NBC 5 Responds.
Delgado said she contacted manufacturer GE Appliances to claim the warranty.
Delgado said the company sent technicians to fix the machine. After four service visits in about a month, the mother of three still did not have a working washing machine.
“Two of them are teenagers and we have three dogs. So we wash a lot, ”says Delgado.
She said GE Appliances sent a check for $ 75 to cover laundry costs in a laundromat, but Delgado said she needed a working machine. So she contacted NBC 5 Responds.
Within a few days, Delgado said, someone from GE Appliances called and arranged for a new machine to be shipped. GE also sent another check for $ 75 for laundry expenses.
A week later, Delgado said she had received a new washing machine.
In an email to NBC 5 Responds, GE Appliances wrote, “We encourage consumers with service or repair needs to contact 1-800-gecares (1-800-432-2737). Consumers can also schedule service appointments and access an owner resource library including equipment manuals and maintenance videos online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/. We are very proud of our trained factory service network and are committed to solving customer problems quickly. “
Steps Consumers Can Take
When Delgado’s washing machine broke, it went straight to the manufacturer.
If that happens to you, you can also give the store a try. Make sure your item is refundable and is within the return window.
When contacting the store or manufacturer, keep a detailed record of any communication.
Delgado said, “It is important to write down these confirmation codes that you speak to because things can be misinterpreted. I have spoken to this person but we have no record of it. That can drag the process out. “
